Ulcha Culcha

ULCHA CULCHA’s journey began many years ago in Kingston, Jamaica on Stars Way, a street in Hughenden, where both members, Terrence G. Swire aka Terro T and Robert B. Spence aka Ajahni, resided. Terro T was always singing, and his loud, rebellious voice would travel out his living room window to the street where Ajahni walked home from school.

Their love of songwriting and music soon brought them together and they formed the group Solemn Fusion. Solemn Fusion was later joined by Bruce Jabalon and Dwight McCrieth aka Dadda Russ, affectionately called Rusty. Rusty is gone but not forgotten, God bless his soul. Solemn Fusion released the single “On the Run” in the early 1990s. They did several stage shows in Jamaica with artistes such as Buju Banton and Luciano.

They performed at then-famous Epiphany night club in Kingston and on one performance was backed by City Heat Band. At that time, City Heat lead singers were Diana King and Gary “Nesta” Pine. Years later, after many turns on the road of life, Terro T, Ajahni and Bruce Jabalon reunited in the United States and formed Lion Head. Lion Head did several shows at bars and clubs in New Jersey. In 2005, Terro T and Ajahni formed Ulcha Culcha. Ulcha Culcha is a vocal reggae group born from love, friendship and hardship. Ajahni and Terro T draw their lyrics and rhythms from the harsh realities of life. Good, bad, indifference, love, hatred, joy and suffering are what their music is all about. Songs like “Wanted”, “Oppressor Man” (dub poetry), “Jah Soldier”, “Look at You Now”, “Fist to Fist”, “Angel in Disguise” and “Moral Standards” reflect the range of their songwriting talent.

Ulcha Culcha has performed in New York and New Jersey at bars and clubs such as Club Ghetto, 10th & Willow, Canal Room, Bar Nine, Makor’s, Baggot Inn, the Grove, to name a few. Currently, Ulcha Culcha’s single “Wanted” is being played on Black Roots Radio, Caribbean Vibes Radio, Jah Live Radio, Linkage Radio, Top Ranking Radio and Royal Radio, as well as other Internet radio stations. “Wanted” was the number one requested song on Black Roots Radio for several weeks. Some of ULCHA CULCHA’S earlier musical influences include Black Uhuru, Bob Marley, Steel Pulse, Yellowman, Mutabaruka, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire, Def Leppard, Queen and Aswad.
